“Years ago, I was skeptical at Duterte. I listened to rumors that he was a feared “berdugo”(executioner of criminals). Curfews at night. No smoking in certain locations, Liquor bans. Maximum forty kph on the street???!!!
But unknowingly, my Many Journeys TO DAVAO to sing for many many years OPENED UP Conversations with the people there. I was shocked yet CURIOUSLY Amazed that taxi drivers, normal workers Love and Respect him! In their personal words, Duterte was The precise Opposite of the Many ACCUSATIONS. Many say this is because the Mayor Protected THEM FROM EVIL.
In my circles, most of the people who decide Duterte as an ill leader have not BEEN TO DAVAO to witness his reforms first-hand.
And when Duterte’s ways are really off, will not Davao and the encompassing Muslim world rebel and oust him even in earlier times?
I must confess, Without MY Many Discussions WITH People FROM DAVAO, I’d not realize who Duterte truly is. So from my heart, thanks a lot Davaoenos for showing me Duterte’s reality in real everyday life.
