A day after Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Ronal Dela Rosa ordered that his men stop the war on drugs, former Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) secratry Rafael Alunan III expressed his disapproval of the motion through a Facebook post.
In the post, Alunan said that the war on drugs should not stop while the PNP goes into “cleansing” of rogue policemen in service.
He said, “It is not an either-or situation.” The war on drugs and the “cleansing” should be done together but the operation should be done in a “right way.”
Dela Rosa made the announcement during a press briefing following an order from President Rodrigo Duterte Himself.
Alunan, who lost the senatorial race last May, suggested that “methods should improve” and that the masterminds of drug operations in the country should be jailed together with their allies.
He ended, “That means choosing the right people to prosecute that war while the PNP is being cleansed of its scalawags.”
Commenters, however, said that the hiatus on the purging of drug operation “will not take long.’
