As magnitude 6.7 earthquake strikes off Surigao City on Friday, relief efforts and aid from government agencies and NGOs has been extended to the affected residents. President Rodrigo Roa Duterte also promised to provide livelihood programs and housing to the earthquake survivors.
This is how the Philippine government response in calamities today.
Well-known writer and New York University alumnus Krizette Laureta Chu also shared the same compliments to the current administration and remembered the stressful times when tragedy or a calamity struck one part of our country. The fundraising efforts, the volunteers needed for the repacking goods, the NGOs and some major network company who’s active in asking for donations.
“Under Duterte, major typhoons have hit, from Ilocos/Batanes, Bicol region, and Surigao was hit by an earthquake, and there even have been bombings
with fatalities, but it’s so different now. Parang walang mad dash ang mga TV stations or private individuals na bongga,”said Ms. Chu.
She added, “Kasi aminin man nila o hindi, for the first time in our history, we feel like our government will and is very capable to take care of things. That it has not met a disaster or a calamity it cannot take care of on its own. And now the President is in Surigao. That’s how a government should be. Nasanay lang tayo sa palpak.”
Later in her Facebook post, she thanked DSWD Sec. Judy M. Taguiwalo and President Duterte/Supreme Lord Duterte as how witty-writer called him.
