The President of the Republic of the Philippines made history as he became the first President who bravely visits a war zone in Mindanao to boost the morale of the soldiers fighting against the Maute Group who were affiliated with the ISIS terrorist group.
Pres. Rody Duterte arrived at around 12:00 noon today, November 30 in Lumbayanague, Lanao del Sur, a mere 5 kilometer from the warzone of Butig town.
During the visit of Pres. Duterte in Butig town, he stated that he does not wish to wage war in Mindanao, despite the recent attacks against government forces in the region but he will do everything to defend any place under attack by any rebel groups.
The President wanted to check the structures that have been destroyed since the Maute terrorist group occupied the old town and abandoned town hall of Butig on Saturday.
The Philippine Army and other members of the Philippine Military is still in the process of retaking the old townhall in Butig but President Duterte assured to the people of Mindanao that he was not there to wage war.
During the President’s speech to the military, he was quoted as saying “I come in peace. I do not want war. What is very certain is that I do not want to wage a war against my own countrymen,” he said.
Although Pres. Duterte doesn’t want to engage in war, he warned the groups behind the attack in Butig not to try his patience, because it would be very easy to start a war but it would be heard to stop and heal the wounds it inflicts.
