Former Secretary of Interior and Local Government Rafael Alunan III defended President Rodrigo Duterte from people who bashed him for his statement about having a conversation with God.
The president said that on his plane trip back to the country, he heard the voice of God, to whom he promised to stop cussing.
“I was looking at the skies as I was coming over here. And I… everybody was asleep snoring. A voice said that you know ‘If you don’t stop (inaudible), I will bring this plane down now.’ And I said, who is this? Of course, it’s God. Oh, OK. So, I promised God not to express slang, cuss words,” he said.
Alunan in his Facebook page said that Duterte merely has a unique sense of humor.
PRRD’s unique sense of humor at work to tell especially his well-meaninged constituents who’ve expressed constructive criticism, “Ok, I heard you loud and clear.” I’m sure he’ll adjust and tone it down within the first six months or “adjustment” period. Because it’s also in the national interest that it happens.
He said that people before reacting to Duterte, should understand first what led him to give out his statements.
“Please research what led to it. It takes two to tango, so to speak; for every cause there is an effect. If wrongs were committed that were taken personally, then reach out and settle it as expected of real leaders than imperious lecturing dictators (emphasis on the first syllable).” he wrote.
He said the president is under a lot of pressure solving the nation’s problems.
“Let’s give him respect and some slack shall we? He represents the Philippines and the Filipino people.” Alunan said.
