At least two former mayors of Lanao del Sur were among the signatories of the recovered multi-million peso cheques recovered from the nest of the Maute Group in Marawi City.
About P27 million worth of cheques and P52 million in cash were recovered by the authorities in what they called as a machine gun nest of the terrorist group Monday afternoon.
Reliable sources identified two politicians who signed some of the recovered cheques.
Davao Breaking News opted not to divulge the names of the two politicians for now pending investigation by the authorities.
Unconfirmed information showed though that one of the two had died early this year.
Authorities hope that the recovered cheques could finally lead them to the link between the terror group and suspected narco-politicians which President Rodrigo Duterte earlier said were funding the terrorists who in turn protect the illegal drug dealers.
