Sexual violence has been a controversial topic these past few days as a result of it getting a topic of a “bad joke.” Different reactions were conveyed by the critics and supporters from the presidential candidate who cracked the joke, as well as a lot of internet websites, have various versions of the story. But, have you ever wondered how this cruelty became rampant within our society?
A screen grab of a Facebook post was published by “The Malaysian Feminist” final 24 March. It shows photographs of ladies that are working with the public transportation in their alluring and revealing outfits. The post was captioned: “In case anyone needs to be reminded that rape culture exists and is quite genuine.”
The post earned a lot of negative comments condemning these girls. A single comment reads: “These two girls deserve to be raped as a result of their selection of clothing.“
Another stated: “She’s asking to obtain raped is it? Then Kena raped blame rapists? Lol.“
On the other hand, TMF would prefer to erase the notion that sexual maltreatment starts in the girls’ way of dressing up and acting because it is usually a crime that begins with the intention on the suspect and not the victim. TMF concluded their statement by saying: “To everyone talking about dressing modestly, appropriately and decently, don’t forget this. The problem is not the way ladies dress. It really is the rapists. Stop focusing on the clothing. Concentrate on the rapists.”
