Former McDonald’s service crew who became a lawyer

Atty. Howard Chan, a former McDonald’s service crew member who ultimately became a lawyer in 2015, shared the struggles he experienced before lastly reaching his dream.


In a post on his weblog Filipinolosophy, Atty. Chan revealed that he came from a working class family members. Although they had wealthy relatives capable of providing help during occasions they had no meals, electrical energy or water, these people chose to simply ignore them.


Due to this experience, he created a prejudice against rich people who refused to help the needy. Stressing that he’s not anti-rich, Atty. Chan expressed his admiration for well-to-do people who make efforts to help other people.


“When I became a lawyer, I just knew that I have to be that kind of lawyer that I admire back in the days when we were struggling. I don’t have to be the smartest or the most prominent. I just want to be one of the most judicious and moral,” he wrote.

Besides being employed as part of the service crew, Atty. Chan formerly worked as a laborer, carwash boy, house painter, virtual assistant, call center agent, and also website manager before passing the 2014 Bar Exams. In April 2015, Atty. Chan had been admitted to the practice of law.

He owns Filipinolosophy,  a website which aims to educate Pinoys to get “a critical approach when it comes to daily occurrences in everyday life.”
